Congratulations to DLIMH illustrator Anni Matsick!

A big congratulations to DLIMH illustrator Anni Matsick for her Honorable Mention from the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators Tomie dePaola Award.

The Tomie dePaola Award is given annually to an illustrator, chosen by Tomie himself from among the entrants. (This year there were over 400!) Runners-up are also named and this is the third time Anni has placed. The 2016 theme was about "unique visualization of the main character." We here at DLIMH know that she is really good at that!

From Anni: "The best reward for placing in SCBWI’s annual Tomie dePaola Award is getting Tomie’s written remarks. A few years ago when I was a Finalist in the Black & White challenge, he sent them handwritten (hugely) on paper (several sheets) via usps–something to cherish. This year, when I got Honorable Mention, the comments came via email (just as thrilling): I liked that you did Red Riding Hood in contemporary clothing, yet your 'style' of drawing and painting has a nostalgic feeling to it – nice juxtaposition. Good setting and the wolf looks very wicked."
